Former Kames Capital Property fund manager, Alex Walker, has joined Islamic finance specialist investment manager Greenridge Investment Management as a director.
Walker, who spent nine years at Kames and helped to launch its Property Income Fund in 2014, will work alongside Greenridge co-founders and fellow directors Bik Bhuptani and Paul Simmons. His remit will be to help develop the team’s investment and asset management offering across its £700m UK commercial real estate portfolio. He will also be responsible for developing new and existing overseas investor partner relationships.
Greenridge has been specialising in investing in lower risk assets outside Central London for the past 25 years and tends to acquire assets that deliver a stable income. It invests its own capital alongside its investor partners via both Sharia compliant and conventional platforms.
Prior to Kames Capital, Walker spent six years in fund management at Aviva Investors. On his appointment, Walker said, “The market is seeing high levels of demand for UK commercial property from overseas investors and this is increasingly moving from a focus on Central London, to regional locations across the country. The team at Greenridge has an excellent track record of delivering impressive performance over a sustained period and through all points of the market cycle.”
Bik Bhuptani said, “Alex’s experience and background speaks for itself. As a business we are at a point in our investment cycle where to maximise portfolio returns, we are looking at which of our holdings are prime for disposal as well as searching for new acquisition. Alex’s level of insight and knowledge of the UK commercial real estate market that will prove invaluable in this process.”
